LEGO Sensor Light

Many times for students understand how working the light sensor is hard. The "audio boo" is a great tool for them listen again all about this sensor.

Using Flickr in Robotics Class

The Flickr is a good option to students ponder in different areas through  observation of images , I thought in two activities that I want to share with you:

1.The activities in my class always is developed in team work but it is hard that students understand it, sometimes one of the members wants to build and program the robot without help. Last Week the rescue of the Chilean Miners gave to world a wonderful example that everything it is possible using Technology and Team Work. I founded in Flickr good photos about Chilean Mine Rescue and I think to use it in my class.

2.In Labor Day's holidays my family and I went to San Francisco, it is a beautiful city and took many pictures one of them it is about the  street in zig zag it's amazing place. I will show this picture of  Street in Zig Zag to my students for give to them a challenge: "build and program a robot that go down for street in zig zag, you robot must be use light sensor for that ". I think it will be a good challenge.

Social Networking Sites

1. The target audience for this social networking site is Anyone 18 years old or older. Orkut is an online community designed to make your social life more active and stimulating. orkut's social network can help you maintain existing relationships with pictures and messages, and establish new ones by reaching out to people you've never met before.  The website was created by a Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten for that is named  Orkut  .

2. This site launched on January 24, 2004.Google then internally commissioned Orkut Büyükkökten to work on a competing independent project. The result was Orkut.

3. This site is popular because is the fastest, easiest to use social network. It's all about speed; you can browse photos, check out friend profiles, and view updates faster than ever. If you use video chat in orkut, you can video chat with your friends in high-resolution! It’s like talking face-to-face with them. Actually it’s working. As of August 2010[update], Alexa traffic ranked Orkut 73rd in the world; the website currently has more than 100 million active users worldwide. It is one of the most visited websites in India and Brazil

4. Orkut's competitors are other social networking sites including MySpace and Facebook. Ning is a more direct competitor, as they allow creation of social networks which are similar to Orkut's communities.

5. I consider create an account and using it, because this site is faster, simpler and more customizable and it’s the most important in Brazil and I worked there four years ago and I Think is the better way to retake friendships and talk about the news technologies in projects with robotics educational in the elementary and high school.

Steve Hargadon - Classroom 2.0 Article

I want to comment about those two points:

Point 4: A network must fulfill some compelling need(s).
The people use social network looking for something they need or wanted and for explain that this point use a good example the Facebook,  many use this site for meet with friends or relatives that didn’t see long time ago and now the students use for share pictures and  opinions. I think it is important consider the network must has a good topic that people need for stimulate to participate, share information and opinions, we don’t forget a nice environment with a simple way to use the different tools  it’s important also for people feel comfortable.
Point 5: Focus in important to having a good conversation.
I consider this point basic for a good participation, there are networks that offer a topic with different sub topics but without link and you lose the focus and the interest, it’s a good idea in Classroom 2.0 exists groups of discussion , this way the people with same interest can development  the big topic but with specific focus.

Using Wiki for LEGO ROBOTICS Class

I enjoy doing my first Wiki MGRobotics, it was fun. I think it will be fun for students also.
In my LEGO ROBOTICS classes the students build and program robots to solve problems, often they obtain creative and innovating solutions that they present in a report, this last part it’s boring for them. I want to use the wiki for give them the new challenges and to request for students to publish the solution in the wiki site, as a report, in this site they can use videos and other tools for one better presentation. I believe that it is a dynamic way to make the report; furthermore they can use links to connect their solution with application in the real world. I consider that they write their comments are wonderful to prepare critical people.
I hope the students feel stimulate to research in other wikis before to make the report, increase ideas for better work in class, share ideas and activities with other students from other schools, states or countries.

Just blog it!

1 .LEGO NXT Robotics Engineering Curriculum Blog for Teachers
For teachers that need a good tool for development projects integrating Science, Math and Technology. In this blog you will find interesting ideas to work with LEGO NXT Robotics, fun and useful links for students, homework documents, etc. The curriculum was development by Carnegie Mello Robotics Academy.
2. A Chat with Mary…
Mary Frazier made a nice blog for share with us practical ideas for implementing technology in the classroom like a connecting educator with the global education community and students with the world
3.The Power of Educational Technology
This blog is interesting because have information demonstrating the power of technology to transform learning, a good blogroll with access to other educational technology blogs and good section for reading.

Teaching Philosophy

Teaching Educational Technology it´s the best way to stimulate students to reach and discover that study is fun, interactive and challenging.
I worked in projects of Technology in Education with LEGO ROBOTICS http://www.lego.com/education/school/default.asp?l1id for ten years. This experience has shown me teaching is about inspiring students using challenge to fulfill  them and to enjoy everything they did and learned.
Many students don´t like Science and Math because they're very abstract or they need to memorize many formulas, but if you use a technological tool then they can make projects that involve the practical use of Physic and Math to solve problems in an easy way.
In projects with LEGO Robotics, the students have to prepare a plan to organize their team indicating roles and responsibilities for each member, then build and program the robot to perform tasks like move an object to specific area. For this they need to calculate the speed and angle of rotation for the robot, estimate if the value of the light sensor must be higher or lower to use it to find the specific relocation area. At the end the project the team needs to make a report.
During all this process the students are so excited, involved and participating actively and  easily learning developmental skills in many disciplines.
Other good example for teams that want something more challenging activities, exist at FLL Robotics Championship http://first.wpi.edu/FLL/fll10video.hml that involve projects of worldwide interest.
Finally I believe that I need to be a good facilitator for our students and stimulate them to consider learning as fun and challenging activity.

About Me

My photo
I'm from Peru, the land of Incas and I studied informatics in my country, after finished my studies I worked in LEGO Robotics projects, it is a wonderful way to teach technology and development students skills in different areas of education. I had the opportunity to work training teacher in Uruguay, Mexico and shared the great work development in Brazil for two years. I'm married and have two busy boys, I love my family and I'm so happy for share about the technology in education and LEGO Robotics.
